[W] What Happened to Obama?

Dear Friends,

In The New York Times today, Drew Westen wrote a great op-ed piece (here).  We talk alot about narratives today, but Mr. Westen reminds us that it is stories that have historically been the most important way to communicate and put everything into perspective.  Mr. Westen details the stories that President Obama should have told us and the stories that he did not tell us.  There is no way to summarize what Mr. Westen writes, you need to read it.

Thanks for reading and please comment,

  1. I'm saddened. I could view the article. It needed a username and password.

  2. I couldn't answer his final question, "So where does that leave us?" It would have been nice if the writer had answered that question because the piece was a little rambling. Wrap it up, child. Wrap it up.

But here's my disclaimer: i read it quickly, while having a glass of wine.

  3. Well, Dad, as usual, your blog bums my shit out. But I think this article misses what I have come to believe is the worst aspect of the Obama presidency. His utter failure to confront anything has led him to adopt really republican policies while simultaneously allowing them to be defined by the right as "dangerously liberal." It will take a generation or more to undo how far right Obama has allowed the pendulum (sp?) to swing.
