Villefranche-sur-Mer

Dear Friends,

Jane and I are spending this January in Villefranche-sur-Mer.  Last year we were here for January, but we attended the Institut de Français to learn to speak French for 8.5 hours per day, five days a week for four weeks.  This year we have rented an apartment in the old town with a beautiful view of the sea, and we are having a tutor for 3 hours a day for 4 days a week.  It will be much less intensive, but we hope quite productive.  So during January you can expect to get more blogs about Villefranche and less about politics in the United States.

So just to get you started, we left Minneapolis on Friday afternoon and made a connection in Amsterdam before arriving in Nice at about 11:30 am (Nice time) on Saturday.  I think that a few comparisons will help you understand why we came back here.

First, there is food.  When we got to the Minneapolis airport, we headed straight for Chili's to have quesadillas.  But here is the food that we got on the airplane.

Upon our arrival in Villefranche we went to a little bistro called Cosmos, one of our favorites, and here is what we had.

Then there is the weather.  Here is picture from our balcony.

It is now 8:00 pm here in Villefranche and the temperature is 50 degrees. In Minneapolis where it is 1:00 pm it is 32 degrees.  The high tomorrow here will 63 degrees and partly sunny.  In Minneapolis tomorrow, the high will be 1 degree but also partly sunny.

So stay tuned for our adventures at the Côte d'Azur.
