[I] Iraq after 2011

Dear Friends,

While everybody was focused on the made up debt crisis and the deficit reduction "debate", several actions of the Obama Administration went under reported.  One such item is the negotiations for a continued US presence in Iraq after the end of this year.  The opening paragraph from a CNN report (here) says it all.
Iraqi political leaders agreed early Wednesday that the Iraqi government will begin negotiating with U.S. officials about leaving U.S. forces inside Iraq -- beyond their scheduled departure at the end of the year -- on a training mission.
The Obama Administration wants to keep US military personnel in Iraq after the end of the year on a "training mission".  I remember what happened to the training mission that the United States started in Vietnam in the early 1960s.  I also know that the funds for that "training mission" could be much better spent at home on any number of things, like education or infrastructure.

President Obama has broken yet another promise.

Thanks for reading and please comment,

  1. Negotiations fell through. We're withdrawing completely come December. If you want to harp on anything militarily related to President Obama it should be his failure to close Guantanamo. Still we can't have everything we want and he's done a pretty decent job with what was given to him imo. One war is at a close, the recent uprisings in the middle east are being well handled, and while the economy has been painfully painfully slow to turn around Obama has managed to make it go in the right direction however incrementally. Miracles were not performed and peoples expectations fell through a little bit. Decent. He's done decent. Which is a sight better than what Bush and erstwhile Sarah Palin have and would have done. In any event the GOP is still what it is so you should be voting Dem regardless for the foreseeable future. Wakka wakka wakka.
